Why Does is it Matter What We Believe About End Times Prophecy?
In Matthew 25, Jesus told a parable about ten virgins who were waiting for the Bridegroom. The wise brought extra jars of oil with their lamps, but the foolish did not. At about midnight, they were all sleeping when a cry rang out. The Bridegroom was almost there! The foolish virgins saw that their lamps were going out, and asked the wise for some oil. But the wise virgins did not know if they would have enough to share, so they suggested to the foolish: go buy for yourselves from oil sellers. The foolish virgins left. And when the Bridegroom came, and He took the wise virgins, who were ready, into the banquet, and the door was shut. And when the foolish arrived, they knocked on the door, asking to be let into the banquet. But the Bridegroom replied, “Assuredly, I tell you the truth: I do not know you.”
Why didn’t the foolish virgins bring “extra” jars of oil? If they considered a possibility of needing it, wouldn’t they have brought extra jars, and not been numbered among the foolish? So then, they assumed they had enough, whether by firm conviction or a general confidence it would all pan out.
What’s so chilling about this parable is they are all waiting for the Bridegroom. Some say, “Well, the foolish were never saved to begin with!” I don’t agree with them. Oil is regarded as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Because the lamps of the foolish were going out, they indeed had oil to begin with. To some, the Lord will say, “I never knew you,” (Mt 7:21-23) but to the virgins, He doesn’t say ‘never’!
With eternal life on the line, 50/50 odds are unacceptable. We must prepare ourselves now to be ready.
Overcoming the Tribulation is dedicated to sharing among the brethren, “Get your extra oil,” before the hour is late. I want people to be prepared to overcome (Rv 12:11). End times prophecy is my main theme, but also Biblical authority and discipleship.

About Annette
One thing Annette really appreciates about her childhood was her parents’ decision to bring her to regular worship services, in addition to Sunday School. Participating afforded her the opportunity to observe and interact with members of the multigenerational body of Christ, making her feel connected. It also helped her cultivate a solid foundation for her faith.
Annette was introduced to the ministry of Ken Ham (Answers in Genesis) when she was about 11. With passion and dry humor, he taught about the importance of Genesis and how evolution/millions of years cuts at the foundation of the gospel. His biblical authority message deeply resonated with her and has had a lifelong effect on how she approaches the Scriptures.
Annette was taught pre-Tribulation “rapture” as a child in churches, and she believed it until she was 16. An answered prayer to understand Jesus’ reply in Luke 17:37 caused her to doubt a pre-Tribulation gathering, so she searched the Scriptures more and quickly became convinced it was impossible. Her testimony is covered in the blog posts, “Luke 17:37: The Carcasses, the Eagles, and the Taken” and “The Timing of the Gathering.”
When God opened her eyes, she knew immediately that when when she was older, she wanted to write down these Scriptures in an orderly way and share them with people. Since 2011, she has been active in research, writing and engaging with believers concerning Biblical end times prophecy.
Annette is also passionate about evangelism and discipling youth.
